This seat is woven with bark from the hickory tree. The rough outer bark is shaved off and then thin strips are cut from the next layer. It is a very labor intensive process to harvest bark and is rarely available commercially. The seat is woven in a 2-under/2-over herringbone pattern after soaking the strips of bark to soften it. Once dry, it is sealed with a natural polymerized linseed oil and wax mixture. The natural beauty and strength is unmatched by any other seating material.
